ETHICS

For a sustainable butterfly release

Our primary goal is to bring people closer to nature, hoping that by appreciating its beauty, they will become more aware and sensitive to conservation issues.

We strive to achieve this in an ethical and sustainable way, leveraging our scientific knowledge developed through years of study and ongoing collaborations with research institutions and universities.

What do we mean by ethics?

We are butterfly experts with years of university studies and an infinite love for these creatures. We treat our butterflies with the utmost care and respect. Every caterpillar is responsibly reared until it becomes an adult butterfly, ready to take its first flight after completing its metamorphosis. We have developed a tested transport system that ensures butterflies arrive safely at their destination by simulating natural conditions similar to nocturnal rest for the entire journey (usually up to 72 hours).

Respect for these wonderful insects is the cornerstone of our company and mission. For this reason, we also ask our clients to show the same respect by adhering to a few simple rules:

  • carefully follow all our instructions;

  • never leave butterflies inside vehicles;

  • do not release butterflies indoors;

  • avoid releasing butterflies after sunset or during unsuitable times of the year.

If these conditions are not accepted, we reserve the right not to proceed with the butterfly supply.

Sustainability is a duty!

The butterflies we breed and supply belong to native species. They are abundant and widespread, with a high dispersal potential and appropriate genetic variability. The genetic structure of populations must be studied and understood, and butterflies must come from closed-cycle breeding facilities and be certified “pathogen free.”

Not all butterflies are suitable for this type of activity without environmental risks. The legal and regulatory framework for our activity is very strict, so only a few species can be released. Specifically, butterflies for release must meet all the following requirements:

  • must not belong to alien (non-native) species;

  • must be abundant and widespread in the region of release;

  • must be a species with high dispersal potential but preferably without specific migratory routes;

  • population genetic structure must be reasonably known and not show marked differences between populations in the release area;

  • must come from closed-cycle breeding, not from wild-caught butterflies or caterpillars;

  • must be certified “pathogen free,” at least for common parasites (microsporidian fungi, baculoviruses, bacteria).

We guarantee that all butterflies we select meet these ethical and sustainability standards.
For us, the Butterfly Release is an act of goodwill — giving back to Nature what has been taken away for hundreds of years: space and vital energy.
Alongside butterfly sales, we also promote educational projects and environmental restoration initiatives.
